Corporate Controller

Location: Prince George, BC

Sasuchan Development Corporation is the economic arm of the Takla Nation, the purpose of Sasuchan is
to create economic wealth, inspiring careers and sustainable employment and business opportunities
for the Takla Nation and conduct all operations in a manner that respects the land, the people, and the
culture. Sasuchan’s head office is located in Prince George, BC.

Sasuchan is seeking a highly organized, detailed oriented, experienced leader to guide our Accounting
Department as the Corporate Controller. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced and
challenging work environment, multi-tasking, and collaborating with all stakeholders that are a part of
SDC Group, subsidiary companies, partnerships, and Takla Nation. Possessing the ability to lead the
accounting staff to complete day-to-day financial operations while being forward-thinking and working
to meet SDC’s strategic goals will be essential for success.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Director of Finance, duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead and oversee full cycle accounting function, including A/R, A/P, bank reconciliations, cash forecasting, and monitoring, GL, financial processes, and reporting as required to support SDC businesses and the Takla Nation;
  • Lead the finance team including recruitment and development of new team members as required;
  • Prepare and issue timely and complete financial statements including month-end and year-end in accordance with ASPE;
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget and forecasts;
  • Oversee all company accounts and investments;
  • Set up systems to track, invoice, report, and collect all receivables per agreements and volume delivered;
  • Collaborate with auditing services to ensure compliance with all regulations;
  • Develop, implement and ensure effective internal controls and financial systems are in place to carry out the business functions;
  • Participate as a key member of the Management Team for the Sasuchan Development Corporation;
  • Assist the Director of Finance to prepare and present financial reports to senior executives, stakeholders, board members, and Chief and Council;
  • Develop, plan and implement programs, policies, and procedures on behalf of Sasuchan as directed;
  • Managing the implementation and configurations of accounting systems and software as needed;
  • Provide project management, contract administration, and performance management consistent with organizational goals, targets and strategic plan;
  • Build extensive and meaningful relationships with the community and other stakeholders within the traditional territory;
  • Contribute, promote and ensure that the activities are undertaken maintain the social, environmental, and cultural values of the Takla Nation;
  • Abide by specific internally established control systems and authorities, lead by personal example and encourage all employees to conduct their activities in accordance with all applicable laws and the Company’s standards and policies, including its environmental, safety, and health policies.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation in good standing required;
  • 7+ years experience working in a financial management position preferred;
  • Or 5+ years experience in a senior financial position.
  • A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles;
  • Attention to detail and numeracy skills essential;
  • Must have strong computer skills and experience, M/S Office, MD365BC, SAGE and management information systems experience and aptitude essential;
  • Leadership – Ability to lead in accordance with SDC’s Principles and leadership model (creating a vision, building teams and developing people) such that it gets results. Utilizes direct reports effectively by allocating decision-making and other responsibilities to the appropriate person;
  • Internal Customer Focus – Ability to develop, maintain and nurture strong relationships with customers by listening, understanding and responding to identified needs.
  • Decision Making – Knowledge of and able to use effective approaches for choosing an economic course of action or develop appropriate solutions and/or reach conclusions. Able to take action consistent with available facts, constraints, and anticipated consequences. Demonstrated capacity & success making decisions (economic thinker, right conclusions, able to take hard decisions, quickly).
  • Sound Customer / Commercial Awareness – Ability to develop, maintain and nurture strong relationships with customers, understand their business and issues and develop appropriate responses to enhance value to their business and / or solve specific problems in a cost effective manner;
  • Building partnerships – Ability to develop and use collaborative relationships to win business and facilitate the accomplishment of work goals. Ability to identify opportunities and take action to build strategic relationships between government and regulatory bodies.
