The Opportunity:
Sasuchan is seeking a highly organized, detailed oriented Resource Operations Supervisor. Sasuchan, in alignment with our pilar of creating sustainable career and employment opportunities for the Takla Nation, provides a Community Contractors program to encourage the development of community owned business focused on the forestry and mining sectors. The program currently supports approximately 22 community businesses that provide varying services ranging from road maintenance and construction to manual brushing and camp support.
We are looking for a candidate that can help manage and promote the growth of the program.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Resource Operations Manager, CEO, and Finance team to ensure sound operational decisions;
- Plan and manage forest road construction and maintenance projects;
- Plan and manage mining construction and maintenance projects, as well as supporting mining exploration projects;
- Provide mentoring support to community contractor businesses involved in the program;
- Review costs and metrics and utilize financial data to improve efficiency;
- Plan, coordinate and supervise operation activities;
- Track, monitor and report on productivity;
- Ensure that all operations are performed in compliance with SDC and client policies and procedures, as well as government regulations;
- Create strong working relationships with clients;
- Maintain positive relationships with clients and contractors; ensure contractor performance and metrics are met;
- Monitor contractor safety performance, while providing safety support and mentorship and ensuring that all workers follow safe work practices.
Qualifications:
- Class 5 Driver’s License;
- Forestry Supervision experience: 5 years required; 10 years preferred;
- Forestry degree or technical diploma an asset;
- RPF or RFT designation, or ability to obtain is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Interested in working for an Indigenous-owned organization committed to reconciliation;
- The ability to travel from the Prince George office to Takla traditional territory frequently;
- Strong business acumen, analytical, organizational and communication skills;
- Proficient in the use of computer systems and the Microsoft office suite of software, with Trimble Land Resource Manager (LRM) an asset;
- Expert knowledge of forestry road construction activities and all applicable safety and environmental regulations;
- Professionalism – Reacts well under pressure treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position accepts responsibility for own actions follows through on commitments;
- Leadership – Ability to lead in accordance with SDC’s Principles and leadership model (creating a vision, building teams and developing people) such that it gets results. Utilizes direct reports effectively by allocating decision-making and other responsibilities to the appropriate person;
- Negotiation – Ability to confer with others to reach resolution. Able to explore alternatives and positions to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties;
- Communication – Creates an atmosphere in which open, timely and high-quality information flows smoothly up and down, inside, and outside of SDC encourages open expression of ideas and opinions. Able to present information to individuals or suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience. Able to listen and respond appropriately to others;
- Organizational Sensitivity – Ability to understand the organization’s mission, the function of the specific work unit and how it works with other work units to serve the customer/client. Able to understand the impact and implications of decisions on the company, employees, and customers;
