Sasuchan Development Corporation is seeking a highly engaged, organized, and detail-oriented team player to join our Forestry & Resource Operations team. Reporting to the CEO, this position is responsible for managing the delivery and administration of contract work for all forest and tenure management, resource operations, and related resource-based projects for Sasuchan. The Forestry and Resource Operations Manager provides oversight for all forestry and resource work including planning, budgeting, resourcing and contract management. This position will provide strong leadership in all aspects of the work in accordance with company and industry regulatory health, safety & environmental standards & practices.

Primary Responsibilities

· Provide leadership in safety and environmental stewardship by demonstrating and ensuring the adherence of company safety and sustainability processes and procedures;

· Oversight for all Forest Tenure obligations and liabilities, Timber Development Program and related subcontracted resourcing;

· Manage the delivery of road maintenance, road construction, and other projects awarded to Sasuchan contractors;

· Manage the delivery of mining and exploration related projects to completion;

· Manage logging relationships, transmission lines, camps, and special resource-based projects

· Manage the delivery of community contractor led projects within Takla territory, providing coaching, supervision, and inspection as required;

· Manage and supervise staff, contractors, and resources to meet scope timelines and budgets;

· Track and provide monthly reports to all stakeholders;

· Ensure that projects are budgeted, planned and scheduled, including a detailed breakdown of tasks, timelines, resources and supplies;

· Create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements;

· Act as liaison and build meaningful relationships with government, industry, Takla community, and all stakeholders;

· Create and sustain a culture of accountability and continuous improvement;

· Coach/provide direction and review the performance of personnel reporting directly to you;

· All other duties as assigned.

Experience & Technical Competency

· Post-secondary degree in Forestry or Natural Resource or related subject;

· Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technician (RFT), or eligibility of either, in BC.

· Multiphase Development training;

· Project management and Supervisory training are required;

· 3 years of working in natural resource management, including at least 2 years of directly related forest management field experience (timber development, forest road engineering, silviculture and/or timber harvesting monitoring/conformance, cutting and road permit applications, field assessments, crew supervision);

· A clear and comprehensive understanding of relevant forestry, environmental and safety-related legislation and policy in BC;

· Understanding of all aspects of forest management, not limited to forest ecology, pathology, engineering, silviculture, timber valuation, timber harvesting and fire and fuels management.

· Experience working with industry writing style such as grammar, sentence form, and structure as well as proposal writing.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

· Excellent leadership skills and ability to work as part of a collaborative team;

· Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, ability to lead and motivate a team;

· Attention to detail, organization, and accuracy essential;

· Well refined negotiation, critical thinking, risk management, problem solving and task management skills essential;

· Ability to create a detailed project schedules, manage budgets, and draft project contracts;

· Ability to maintain courteous, professional conduct with the public, employees, and contractors;

· Must have strong computer skills and experience, M/S Office, and Project management information systems experience and aptitude essential;

Working Conditions

· Working in remote locations for short periods of time may be required.

· May require long hours to meet specific deadlines, therefore flexibility in work schedule with the option to telecommute is necessary.

Pay: $100,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
